Peaky Blinders: Series 5 - trailer

Peaky Blinders has finally welcomed a key new cast member after a lengthy production delay.

The hit BBC drama from Steven Knight was put “indefinitely” on hold because of Covid in early 2020.

Filming on the sixth series is now underway and Stephen Graham, who previously said his agent had “spent a lot of time putting [the role] together”, has been spotted filming his scenes.

Photos obtained by Metro.co.uk confirm the actor has started work on the drama. In them, the British actor can be seen smiling away in his period costume of a shirt and waistcoat on set in Liverpool.

It’s currently unknown who Graham will be playing, but rumours suggest he could be starring as gangster Al Capone.

It would be an interesting decision, considering he previously played Capone in HBO series Boardwalk Empire.

The new series of Peaky Blinders will be its last.

Cillian Murphy and Aimee-Ffion Edwards will be returning in the new episodes.

Speaking about the final series, Knight said: “After the enforced production delay due to the Covid pandemic, we find the family in extreme jeopardy and the stakes have never been higher.”

The show’s fandom was recently rocked by the news that Helen McCrory, who had played Polly Shelby since the first series, died of cancer, aged 52.
