A Fine Beginning exhibition showcases what Welsh photography is made of

Numerous artworks cover Wales' history from the past to the present day

A Welsh photography collective that gives photographers creating work in and around Wales a platform is holding an exhibition to showcase new images.

A Fine Beginning will display work from members Abbie Trayler-Smith, Gawain Barnard and James O Jenkins, as well as the 27 photographers who have had projects featured on the blog.

The artworks range in date from the past to the present day, with a picture from A Lost Resort by Stephen Clarke offering a nostalgic look at an old seaside ice cream parlour.

Another striking photograph focuses on a couple and their dog in the back of a taxi, while an image from Jooney Woodward’s Landscapes series captures a woman walking her dog above a modern housing development.

Steam rises from a hot iron as a man presses his apron in a picture from the Caldey series by Francesca Jones and a black of white snap of men surrounding a cow from James A Hudson’s Last Days of the Abergavenny Livestock Market could surely be considered a historical artefact.

Named after the first chapter of Dylan Thomas’s unfinished novel Adventures in the Skin Trade, A Fine Beginning will be holding its Made in Wales exhibition until 16 November at Carousel London.
