The 2019 National Geographic Travel Photo contest is now in its fourth week of accepting entries.
The contest invites photographers of all abilities to send in the best pictures from their travels in the hope of winning a cash prize and online promotion.
The best entries this week include a close encounter with a humpback whale and a fog-draped Golden Gate Bridge.
“We are looking for images that show us the world: its people, places, and cultures,” says the National Geographic magazine.
“Photos that tell the story of a place and travel moments that reveal what inspires you.”
The contest is open until 3 May and you can submit your photographs here.
The Independent has compiled the best pictures from the contest this week in the gallery above.
