MARTIN SCORSESE'S dark King of Comedy (8pm Sky Cinema), bombed at the box office despite featuring one of Robert De Niro's finest performances as Rupert Pupkin (right). This unhinged man is so obsessed with his hero, chat-show host Jerry Langford (Jerry Lewis), that he practises being him, talking to cardboard-cutout celebs in his front-room. His obsession takes on a more sinister edge when he is ejected from Langford's office and teams up with a fellow fanatic (Sandra Bernhard) to kidnap the TV star.

David Fincher proved his credentials as a director of dark and genuinely chilling thrillers with Seven. He underlines them effectively in The Game (8pm Sky Premier), a taut suspense film about a successful businessman (Michael Douglas) who, as an outlandish birthday present, is invited by his brother (Sean Penn) to join a deadly game .
