Actor Scott Baio denies allegations he molested former co-star Nicole Eggert as a teen

Scott Baio has denied allegations of sexual misconduct levied against him by former Charles in Charge co-star Nicole Eggert in a lengthy Facebook Live post.

Eggert accused Baio, a former Happy Days actor, of behaving inappropriately with her when she was just a minor and he was in his twenties.

The exchange kicked off on Saturday after the 46-year-old penned a tweet telling another Twitter user to go “ask @scottbaio what happened in his garage at his house when I was a minor.”

Eggert added: “Creep”.

The tweet came in response to Baio's tweet expressing support for US president Donald Trump.

Eggert used to star alongside the 57-year-old actor, who is now married, on the 1980s sitcom Charles in Charge, where she played Jamie Powell who was one of the children Baio’s character takes care of.

Eggert later claimed in a tweet which has now been deleted that the inappropriate behaviour - which she did not go into detail about - “started when I was 14”.

In a series of tweets, Eggert, who even referred to herself as a “molested child”, claimed on Saturday that the actor "molested" her repeatedly from the ages of 14 until she was 17.

Minutes after Eggert, who later landed a role in the TV series Baywatch, made the claims, Baio’s wife of ten years Renee spoke out against Eggert.

“Scott’s legal team has served u more than 2 cease & desist letters,1u pretended 2B a Nanny & @DrOz killed ur show!” she tweeted.

Baio has now strenuously denied the claims in a Facebook Live and on Twitter, branding the allegations “100 per cent lies.”

In his Facebook Live post, which was around 16 minutes long, Baio hit back at Eggert's accusation and presented documents from his lawyers from over the years.

He also played audio snippets from a 2013 interview Eggert conducted with online gossip site The Dirty in which she purportedly claimed she and Baio had consensual sex long after Charles in Charge stopped being shown on air.

Speaking in a Facebook Live recorded by his wife, Renee, who can be heard in the background delivering directions, he says: "I am here today to talk about some allegations that have been made against me that are untrue by somebody named Nicole Eggert.”

He continues: ”The reason I'm doing Facebook Live is because nobody can edit me, nobody can change what I said. These are my words. And I'm telling you the truth. So I'm going to knock down all these false claims against me."

Baio, who was one of the few Hollywood celebrities to endorse Mr Trump for president, admitted he and Eggert did have consensual sex once but said she was 19 or 20 when it took place.

Baio said: ”I remember her calling me and asking to come over, and coming into my house, one time and seducing me.

"Now any normal heterosexual, red-blooded American guy ... the outcome would have been the same.”

The Independent contacted representatives of Baio and Eggert for comment.
