Famine and war is the very worst combination. Hundreds of thousands of Somalis have died this year, thousands more are reduced to spectres, still, unbelievably, alive. James Nachtwey took these photographs round Baidoa, one of the hardest-hit towns, before the relief troops attempted to reach it.
