House of Eliott returned to the screen as BBC1's 18th most popular programme of the week, with an audience of 8.7 million. This is 1.52m less than the audience for the last episode of the last series, but 1.62m up on the audience for the first episode of that series. Other new series that scored impressively are Dame Edna's Neighbourhood Watch (8.84m) and Inspector Morse which drew 7.09m viewers and was Channel 4's most popular programme of the week, despite being a repeat.
