BBC1 and ITV both showed the European Football Championship final two weeks ago, the Beeb winning with an average audience of 7.45m to ITV's 4.9m. Figures released yesterday show interesting match-time audience fluctuations: ITV actually started the game with a larger audience (5.4m to BBC1's 5.3m) but while BBC1's audience increased steadily throughout the match, ending on 9.3m, ITV's audience see-sawed, falling as low (at half-time, time for the ads) as 4.3m.
