The Rock responds to rumours of 2020 presidential run
'It's been very flattering, right, that there's been this really interesting uptick in public opinion wanting that to happen'
Dwayne Johnson: President 2020? Ridiculous, sure, but in a world where ridiculous is the new normal, it's hard to know what to think.
Graham Norton brought up the rumours on his show, to which Johnson replied: "Here's the problem. It's been very flattering, right, that there's been this really interesting uptick in public opinion wanting that to happen, but the problem is this guy to my right [gesturing to Jumanji co-star Kevin Hart] will completely sabotage the campaign."
Hart himself (heartily) agreed, explaining that his reasoning comes from the fact it would make Johnson "that much better than me".
It's pretty clear Johnson's not toying with the idea all that seriously, though all the goodwill towards him does come from a genuine place. As Jessica Chastain, who was also on Graham Norton's couch, pointed out: "Have you seen his Instagram? He's so nice! And he's always showing gratitude."
That said, official records show that a presidential campaign for the actor has been filed with the Federal Election Commission (FEC); albeit on his behalf by a West Virginian man named Kenton Tilford, whose ties to Johnson are unclear at present.
Johnson had previously told Vanity Fair that he "wouldn't rule it out" when it came to him running for POTUS in 2010, saying it would be "a great opportunity to help people".
