Roy Ayers (Ronnie Scott's, Birmingham, 021-454 7070, tomorrow-Sat). Fusion de luxe from the veteran vibraharpist's sextet, which includes in its line-up the highly rated guitarist Zachary Breaux.

Georgie Fame (Ronnie Scott's, W1, 071-439 0747, tomorrow-Sat). Still, 30 years after those Flamingo all-niters, the hippest thing to be heard in Soho.

Mose Allison (Pizza Express, Dean St, W1, 071-437 9595, Wed-Sun 14). And here's where Georgie Fame got it from: the dry-voiced, wry-witted blues singer and pianist from Mississippi.

Randy Weston (Queen Elizabeth Hall, SE1, 071-928 8800, Thurs; St Donat's Arts Centre, Llantwit Major, 0446 794848, Sat). This veteran New York pianist was exploring the African connection long before anyone coined the term 'world music'.

Bill Bruford (Jazz Cafe, NW1, 071-916 6000, Thurs). Once he filled arenas with Yes and King Crimson; now this excellent drummer leads a thoughtful, adventurous quartet.
