The Sunday Preview: Opera & Concerts
Festival of Britten (Barbican, 071-638 8891, today). A Sunday sequence of talks, films, chamber music and (at 7.30pm) the big concert with the LSO.
Da Capo (Royal Academy of Music, 071-487 2763, from tomorrow). A week of reckoning for composers who studied at the Academy: Richard Rodney Bennett, David Bedford, John Tavener and more squeezed into concerts that run end to end, from tomorrow to Fri.
La Damnation de Faust (ROH, 071- 240 1066, from tomorrow). Potentially spectacular production by Harry Kupfer of Berlioz's Legende dramatique. Berlioz specialist Colin Davis conducts a strong cast.
Passion and Resurrection (Westminster Abbey, 071-928 8800, Thurs). Jonathan Harvey's liturgical drama, written for Winchester Cathedral and resurrected here by Martin Neary.
Stephen Hough (Wigmore Hall, 071- 935 2141, Sat). One of the very best British pianists around in a typically wide-ranging programme that runs from Byrd to Corigliano.
