Malcolm X (15; MGM Shaftesbury Ave and general release). See review on The Critics pages in the main paper.

Lorenzo's Oil (12; MGMs Piccadilly, Trocadero; Empire Leicester Sq, Whiteleys, Screen Baker St). True story of the parents of a dying child who stop at nothing to save him - even scientific discovery.

The Crying Game (18; Plaza). Neil Jordan's Vertigo-inspired thriller of IRA terror and sexual obsession.

Reservoir Dogs (18; MGMs Chelsea, Haymarket, Tottenham Ct Rd and general release). The reek of the charnel house relieved by Quentin Tarantino's savagely smart script.

Napoleon (U; Everyman, today only, 1.30pm). Abel Gance's six-hour extravaganza, with split screens and live accompanying sextet.
