Solo shows are my least favourite form of theatre. That's putting it mildly. Someone showing off that they've read the complete poems of poor Sylvia Plath, studied the lay-lines of the entire Bloomsbury Group or persuaded an under-employed Equity member to sell tickets though his resemblance to Rembrandt is most definitely not my bag. Thus my recommendation of David Hare's fascinating and affecting solo Via Dolorosa comes with a certain amount of eating of hats.
