Theatre: COMING ATTRACTIONS

Conor McPherson's quiet stunner The Weir is about a group of people telling ghost stories in an Irish country pub. That doesn't sound like the last word in theatrical excitement, but then Alan Bennett's completely static Talking Heads can't have sounded like a great idea originally. However, the writing was so good they turned out to be magical and engrossing. It's the same here. The writing plays to all of director Ian Rickson's strengths, and after two sell-out runs, the gripping, beautifully acted result returns in October.

Royal Court at the Duke of York's, London WC2 (0171-565 5000) from 14 Oct
