THEATRE / Studs: Edinburgh Festival Day 4

A hyperactive, mouthy show about an Irish amateur football team in which 11 men give 110 per cent throughout. The Rovers are a rowdy mess until a new manager (Eamonn Hunt's lugubrious Walter) slaps them - sometimes literally - into shape. Propelled by a lively mix of well-choreographed sporting action and richly comic verse, they boot, battle and banter their way to League success. Paul Mercier's script, riddled with obscenities and cheerful violence, comes across as a hymn to tribalism and testosterone, while the humour gives a freshness to the classic rags-to-almost-riches plot. The lads play a blinder.

Assembly Rooms, 54 George Street (venue 3), 031-226 2428. 2.30pm. To 29 Aug (not 23 Aug).
