The Olympics swamped BBC 1's Top 30 for the week ending 9 August, occupying 13 slots. This was made possible by the channel being allowed, for research purposes, to split up its long programmes into 15- minute slots. Therefore Olympic Grandstand on Sunday night (5- 10pm) actually made four appearances in the list as: Olympic Grandstand (5pm, 6.25m); Men's Marathon (5.27pm, 8.76m); Olympic Grandstand (7.50pm, 8.64m); and Closing Ceremony (9.01pm, 11.05m).
