The BBC has finally placated Doctor Who fans with a full length trailer, two weeks after a shorter teaser left tongues wagging.

The 65-second clip was released last night showing a fast-paced promo featuring a dinosaur outside the Houses of Parliament, Daleks and Cybermen.

However, viewers eager to see how Peter Capaldi has truly fared in his new role as the twelfth Doctor will still have to wait for the 23 August launch date.

Capaldi, who played foul-mouthed Malcolm Tucker in British political satire The Thick of It and more recently the Cardinal in The Musketeers, has replaced Matt Smith as the Time Lord. Smith left Doctor Who last year.

The latest breadcrumb to be thrown to audiences is a dazzling showcase of what’s to come and shows the Doctor interacting with his companion, Jenna Coleman’s Clara.

The trailer opens with the words “life returns,” spoken by a character that almost definitely is Davros.

“I'm the Doctor. I have lived for over 2,000 years. I have made many mistakes. It's about time that I did something about that.”

Clara then asks: “Where are we going?” to which the Doctor replied: “Into darkness.”

The trailer ends with the time traveller asking his confidant the same question posed in the smaller teaser earlier this month: “Am I a good man?” Clara reponds this time with: “I don’t know.”

Cardinal Richelieu in The Musketeers is expected to be killed off in the next series after Capaldi swapped his villainous role in the BBC thriller for the Tardis.
