Game of Thrones: Two former stars were brought back for the season 8 finale to trick viewers

Producers hoped the move would put fans off the scent of key plot points

The producers of Game of Thrones invited several former cast members to the set of the finale in order to dupe fans.

Earlier this month, the last ever episode of the HBO show brought back several old characters, but three particular cast members were present for one of its crucial scenes in an attempt to misinform fans who were hunting for spoilers.

The scene in question was the one set months after Jon Snow had been imprisoned for killing Daenerys Targaryen. Several key Westeros players came to King's Landing in order to discuss who should rule the Seven Kingdoms. These included: Sansa, Arya and Bran Stark, Samwell Tarly, Edmure Tully, Robin Arryn, Ser Davos, Yara Greyjoy, Ser Brienne of Tarth, Gendry Baratheon and an unnamed Dornish prince.

Peter Dinklage and Jacob Anderson's characters Tyrion Lannister and Grey Worm also featured in the pivotal the scene that saw Bran Stark elected king.

However, the three actors who were present for the scene despite not appearing at all included Kit Harington (Jon Snow) and season six stars Faye Marsay (The Waif) and Tom Wlaschiha (Jaqen​ H'ghar).

New documentary The Last Watch even revealed that the latter two watched on in costume.

The HBO special also showed the precise moment the cast discovered Arya would kill the Night King.

The behind-the-scenes footage from the table read shows actors including Sophie Turner, Kit Harington and Maisie Williams herself responding to the moment as it’s read out by producer Bryan Cogman.
