I’m a Celebrity star Ruthie Henshall reveals her first date was with Prince Edward

Ruthie Henshall opened up about going on a date with Prince Edward, on the latest episode of I’m a Celebrity (20 November).

The stage actor told former EastEnders star Shane Richie that the royal is a “lovely bloke” who she “genuinely fell in love with” in the early Nineties.

Explaining how she met Prince Edward, Henshall said: “He was a production assistant at Andrew Lloyd Webber's. Andrew called me himself and said he wanted me to play the lead in A Star Is Born. And Edward was my point of contact. He was the one who'd call me up and say you're rehearsing at two o'clock or whatever.”

Henshall added that Prince Edward asked her: “Would you like to come to mine and watch the film of A Star Is Born with me and you can have some dinner?”

She joked: “I was like, 'What, at the palace, is that where you live?’”

Henshall said the Prince invited her to Windsor for the weekend, where she met the Queen and forgot to curtsy.

"Did you know Diana much?" asked Richie.

"I met her a couple of times,” said Henshall, “and one of my favourite times was we were at Balmoral, there was Diana, the Queen, Margaret, the Queen Mother, Charles, Edward, myself."

Henshall recalled having several Martinis before singing “I Dreamed a Dream” from Les Miserables in front of the royal family.

Prince Edward is the youngest son of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip. He has been married to Sophie, Countess of Wessex since 1999.
