NASA Television debuts high-def channel

On July 19, the US space agency, NASA, will launch a full-time high-definition (HD) television channel for the public and media to access.

NASA Television will deliver live launch coverage of spacecraft on video and feature a daily update of activities on the International Space Station including video of Earth shot by crews and from NASA satellites.

The footage also will be available for cable and satellite news providers, in MPEG format, along with coverage of agency missions and programs.

NASA's video news feed, conferences, lectures, interviews and special events also will be delivered in HD.

The Space Shuttle program which was expected to end soon, will be included since the US Senate is planning to extend it for at least three more missions, which should be televised.
