From Stranger Things to Sense8, Netflix has produced some astounding science fiction. However, none can match the scope of their upcoming series, Altered Carbon.

Based on Richard K. Morgan’s cyberpunk noir novel, the dystopian adaptation centres on a world where consciousness can be stored digitally and human bodies (called “sleeves”) have become interchangeable, allowing humans to theoretically live forever,

One former soldier, Takeshi Kovacs — played by Suicide Squad actor Joel Kinnaman — has been brought back to life by a wealthy investor and tasked with solving a murder. The twist? Kovacs must work out who murdered the person who brought him back.

With an intriguing plot and visuals reminiscent of Blade Runner, Altered Carbon looks set to become one of next year’s most talked about shows. The Independent has some exciting exclusive details on the upcoming series, including some tantalising first-look images and an official synopses.

But, first off, when can we expect the series to finally reach the streaming service? Altered Carbon touches down 2 February.

Flick through the below gallery to see the images, accompanied by some character descriptions and extended captions. Below that is the official synopses.

Synopsis - Based on the classic cyberpunk noir novel by Richard K. Morgan, Altered Carbon is an intriguing story of murder, love, sex, and betrayal, set more than 300 years in the future. Society has been transformed by new technology: consciousness can be digitized; human bodies are interchangeable; death is no longer permanent. Takeshi Kovacs is the lone surviving soldier in a group of elite interstellar warriors who were defeated in an uprising against the new world order. His mind was imprisoned, “on ice”, for centuries until Laurens Bancroft, an impossibly wealthy, long-lived man, offers Kovacs the chance to live again. In exchange, Kovacs has to solve a murder… that of Bancroft himself.

Altered Carbon launches on Netflix Friday, 2 February 2018.
