They met while filming Lord Andrew Lloyd Webber's talent show Any Dream Will Do. But it seems the happy ending has gone sour for judge Denise van Outen and the contest's winner Lee Mead after four years of marriage.

The couple, who have a three-year-old daughter Betsy together, confirmed their split in a joint statement.

"Denise van Outen and Lee Mead are sad to confirm they have decided to separate," it said.

"The couple remain the best of friends, with their daughter Betsy as their number one priority. The family ask for privacy at this time."

Their split follows months of speculation about their relationship and a report on the in the Sun on Sunday that Mr Mead moved out of the couple's London home in May.

The pair were last pictured together, with their daughter, last weekend when they attended the launch of Tickety Toc at Hamleys toy shop in London on 21 July.

Ms van Outen, an actress and television presenter best known for fronting The Big Breakfast and for appearing as Roxie Hart in Chicago on both the West End and Broadway, was a judge on BBC talent show Any Dream Will Do in 2007.

Mr Mead, a contestant on the show, won the lead role in Lord Andrew's revival of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat. He has subsequently had West End roles in Wicked, Legally Blonde: The Musical and The West End Men.
