Aziz Ansari's stand-up specials on Netflix have proven so popular that the streaming service are giving him his own series.

As yet untitled, the show is being co-created by Ansari and Parks and Rec's Michael Slur and Alan Yang and is rumoured to be loosely-based on Ansari's life.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the comedian will be joined on the cast by Jon Benjamin (Archer, Bob's Burgers), Lena Waithe (The Comeback), Eric Wareheim (Tim and Eric Awesome Show, Great Job!), Noel Wells (SNL) and Kelvin Yu (writer for Bob’s Burgers).

It will be interesting to see whether the show is a semi-autobiographical modern day thing a la Louie or Curb Your Enthusiasm, or whether it revisits Aziz's high school or college years, which he often discusses in his stand-up shows.

It's definitely an exciting prospect whatever the show ends up looking like, with Netflix having scored an absolute slam dunk with its last comedy, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt.
