Killing Eve Season 2: Official trailer

Killing Eve leads this year’s Bafta TV nominations.

The BBC drama, written by Fleabag‘s Phoebe Waller-Bridge and starring Jodie Comer and Sandra Oh, has been nominated for 14 awards.

A Very English Scandal, the Ben Whishaw- and Hugh Grant-starring drama about politician Jeremy Thorpe’s downfall, follows close behind with 12 nominations.

The thriller series Bodyguard also scooped multiple nominations, including Best Drama series, alongside Killing Eve, Save Me and Informer.

However, Richard Madden missed out on Best Lead Drama Actor, with Grant (A Very English Scandal), Benedict Cumberbatch (Patrick Melrose), Chance Perdomo (Killed By My Debt) and Lucian Msamati (Kiri) making up the nominees.

Madden’s co-star Keeley Hawes is up for Best Drama Actress, going up against both Oh and Comer for Killing Eve, as well as Ruth Wilson for Mrs Wilson.

Hawes also picked up a Best Supporting Actress nomination for her role in Mrs Wilson, going up against Fiona Shaw (Killing Eve), Monica Dolan (A Very English Scandal) and Billie Piper (Collateral).

Other notable nominations include Ant and Dec, who feature in the Best Entertainment Performance category for Saturday Night Takeaway, despite Ant Mcpartlin not presenting the show following his arrest for drink-driving.

The ITV series is also in the running for Best Entertainment Programme, alongside Britain’s Got Talent, Strictly Come Dancing and Michael McIntyre’s Big Show. The X Factor failed to make the cut.

Viral music documentary Bros: After The Screaming Stops is in the running for three awards, while Black Mirror: Bandersnatch has been nominated for single drama, alongside Care, Killed By My Debt and Through The Gates (On The Edge).

The Virgin Media British Academy Television Awards take place in London on 12 May.
