"Memories can be subjective," Kiran Sonia Sawar's character utters. "They may not be totally accurate, and they're often emotional."

Though Black Mirror is set around ideas of modern society and technophobia, its episode 'Crocodile' seems also to be examining the societal implications the working of our own minds bring. What part of memory is truth? How far can we trust our own selves?

A few trailers have made their way online for the upcoming fourth season, set to debut on Netflix, including snippets from all six episodes, and a teaser for the Jodie Foster-directed 'Arkangel'.

'Crocodile' sees Sawar's character seemingly attempt to get to the bottom of a crash in which a vehicle may have hit a pedestrian, utilising a machine designed to help access memories. But there may be more to the story, as hinted when she says: "I don't care what you do in your own time. Private stuff is private stuff."

'Crocodile' will be the first episode of the season, written by Charlie Brooker and directed by The Road's John Hillcoat.

Speaking to The Independent earlier this year, the show’s producer Annabel Jones offered some in-depth details about the episode.

"‘Crocodile’ is a beautiful, more personal study. It’s set in Iceland which introduced a totally new palette – one of the privileges of doing Black Mirror is the opportunity to create different worlds and moods and tones," she said. "It’s a film set in the near future where your memories are no longer private so they can be dredged – sometimes in helpful ways."

"It’s very different to [season one episode] ‘The Entire History of You’ in that they’re not accurate – they’re memories rather than recordings. We follow Andrea Riseborough, a woman trying to solve a dilemma..."

Black Mirror season 4 does not yet have a release date.
