The Brooklyn Nine-Nine All Action Trailer

Hit NBC sitcom Brooklyn Nine-Nine is set to come to an end after its forthcoming eighth season.

The series is set in a New York police precinct and features an ensemble cast which includes Andy Samberg, Andre Braugher, Melissa Fumero, Stephanie Beatriz and Joe Lo Truglio.

In a statement posted to social media, the show’s co-creator Dan Goor wrote: “I’m so thankful to NBC and Universal Television for allowing us to give these characters and our fans the ending they deserve.

“When Mike Schur and I first pitched the pilot episode to Andy [Samberg], he said, ‘I’m in, but I think the only way to tell this story is over exactly 153 episodes,’ which was crazy because that was exactly the number Mike and I had envisioned.”

He also described the decision to end the show as “difficult”, and said that it was the “best way to honour the characters, the story and our viewers”.

Goor added: “I know some people will be disappointed it’s ending so soon, but honestly, I’m grateful it lasted this long. Title of my sex tape.”

Fans of the series expressed their sadness over the news, with one person describing the show’s impending end as “gutting”.

Brooklyn Nine-Nine ending has ruined my week/month/year/life,” wrote one Twitter user.

“I remember the devastation of its original cancellation from FOX,” wrote another, “and while the pain resurfaces right now, I’ll forever be thankful for all the memories and laughs.”

Someone else added: “Just found out that Brooklyn Nine-Nine is ending and now I’m crying.”

The show’s penultimate season arrives on Netflix in the UK and Ireland on 26 March.
