‘I will take it as soon as humanly possible’: Bob Geldof, Piers Morgan among celebrities urging public to get Covid vaccine

A number of celebrities are encouraging the general public to take the Covid-19 vaccine as soon as it becomes available to them, including Bob Geldof and Piers Morgan.

On Tuesday (8 December) the NHS took a major step forward in the fight against coronavirus as it began administering vaccines, with a 90-year-old woman from Coventry becoming the first in the world to receive the jab.

The UK’s health service is the first in the world to begin rolling out the Pfizer/BioNTech's Covid-19 vaccine, which has proved to be 95 per cent effective in trials.

Boomtown Rats frontman Geldof urged the public to get the jab, saying: “I will absolutely and immediately take it as soon as humanly possible.”

Good Morning Britain presenter Piers Morgan, meanwhile, offered to get the vaccine live on TV with health secretary Matt Hancock.

Talk show legend Michael Parkinson said: “I’m first in the queue.”

Monty Python star Michael Palin, This Morning’s Eamonn Holmes, Strictly judge Craig Revel-Horwood, The Weakest Link’s Anne Robinson, Mastermind host John Humphrys, singer Lulu and Rolling Stones guitarist Ronnie Wood have also endorsed it and encouraged their fans to get vaccinated.

Holmes told The Mirror: “I will definitely take the vaccine. I reckon I’ve got more to lose by not taking it.

“Life is for living, not wasting. I have too much to do and see and to pack into whatever is left of my life rather than waste years hiding away.”

Wood said it’s a “blessing”.

Lula added: “I cannot wait. I have no fears or qualms about it. “I’m looking forward to being able to hug loved ones and get back to normal.”

The endorsements from UK celebrities come after former presidents Barack Obama, George W Bush and Bill Clinton all volunteered to take the vaccine on camera.

Many stars have also helped fund the development of vaccines, from Dolly Parton to Rihanna and Madonna.
