Changing Rooms reboot confirmed with Davina McCall and Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen
Hit home makeover programme ran for 10 seasons from 1996 to 2004
Changing Rooms will be returning to screens with Davina McCall as the show’s presenter, more than 15 years after it aired its last episode.
McCall is set to replace Carol Smilie as the host of the hit home makeover programme. The former Big Brother presenter will be joined by the iconic designer Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen.
“I’m so excited to be presenting Changing Rooms,” McCall told The Sun. “I can’t wait to see all the amazing transformations. I might even get stuck in myself if I’m allowed to be let loose with a paintbrush!”
Llewelyn-Bowen – who appeared on the original series and is known for his love of bold aesthetics – said: “There’s no room for beige in our homes, and just as it was in the Nineties, Changing Rooms is once more the homestyle antidote to Britain’s blues (and greys and taupes, and even Magnolia).
The 55-year-old joked: “It’s taken quite a lot of coaxing to get me under the Changing Rooms banner once more, but nothing like as much coaxing as it’s going to take for me to squeeze those leather trousers back on.”
The potential of a reboot was raised in August, however, the show’s original host Smilie revealed that she had not been asked to return.
It is not confirmed whether other regulars such as Linda Barker, “Handy” Andy Kane and Anna Ryder Richardson will feature in the forthcoming reboot.
Changing Rooms ran from 1996 to 2004, and developed a significant fanbase over the course of its 10 seasons.
The home makeover programme is being revived by Channel 4 for six one-hour episodes in 2021.
