The Crown season 3 trailer

It looks like Claire Foy is returning to The Crown.

A new photo published by BuzzFeed features the actor, who portrayed Queen Elizabeth during the historical drama's first two seasons, apparently recording a scene as the monarch.

The moment seems to be inspired by a real-life speech given by the then-princess on 21 April, 1947, in which she pledged to dedicate her life to serving the Commonwealth.

Much like the monarch, Foy is seen in the new image sitting down behind a BBC microphone, wearing a white dress and a row of pearls.

The Independent has contacted Foy's representative for comment.

Foy and Matt Smith, who portrayed the Duke of Edinburgh, were replaced by Olivia Colman and Tobias Menzies in the show's third season.

Helena Bonham Carter stars as Princess Margaret.

The change in cast was made to reflect the ageing process of the series's protagonist, as the show progressed from the Queen's earlier reign to the sixties and seventies.

Season three of The Crown premiered on Netflix on 17 November. You can read our review here and read about the real-life events that inspired it here.
