Coronation Street star Bruno Langley leaves show following internal inquiry into sexual assault allegation

Longtime Coronation Street actor Bruno Langley has left the show following allegations he sexually assaulted a woman in a nightclub.

ITV launched an investigation into the claims earlier this month, later confirming Langley — who has played Todd Grimshaw since 2001 — will no longer be appearing on the soap.

A source first revealed to The Mirror that the actor’s contract expired on Thursday, 26 October, a spokesperson saying: "Bruno Langley is no longer contracted to Coronation Street.”

In a statement, the 34-year-old said: "Sadly, I will no longer be working on Coronation Street. Acting on the show has been the fulfilment of a personal dream.

"Playing the role of Todd Grimshaw since I was 17 years old has been a huge part of my life, and an absolute honour.

“I would like to thank all of my friends who work on the show for their love, friendship and support during this extremely difficult period.”

Langley added that a further statement on the case would be issued in due course. The actor continues to deny any wrongdoing, while Greater Manchester Police said they are still investigating an alleged incident at the city’s Band on the Wall nightclub.

The actor played the first openly gay character on Coronation Street. Langley was a regular until 2004, only making fleeting appearances from there on until returning as a regular in 2013.

According to Radio Times, scenes featuring Langley will continue to be screened until 24 December, as these were filmed before the inquiry started. Following that, scenes will have to be rewritten.
