Courtney Love to star in A Midsummer Night's Dream adaption for Lifetime

A Midsummer's Nightmare forms part of an anthology series of adaptations of the Bard's work

If you've wondered what Courtney Love's been up to of late, the answer is apparently signing on to star in Shakespeare adaptations. Who would have guessed?

She's landed a recurring guest role on Lifetime (yes, the very channel that aired such iconic original films as My Stepson, My Lover and Mother, May I Sleep with Danger?)'s new William Shakespeare anthology series A Midsummer's Nightmare, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Each season is set to take on one of the Bard's most famous works, with A Midsummer Night's Dream here being transformed into a modern-day thriller which is set to explore concepts of "terror, deception, and the dark side of love".

The show will center on a young woman named Elena, who sees her summer getaway take a nightmarish turn; with the play's four young lovers and their woodland escapades taking a sinister turn when forces from deep within the woods start targeting the group, utilising their own romantic fantasies and their darkest secrets against them.

Love will play one of the woodland inhabitants (likely a take on Titania), alongside the likes of Dominic Monaghan (Lost), Daisy Head (Guilt), Jake Robinson (American Odyssey), newcomer Ellie Gall, Casey Deidrick (Eye Candy), Eric Balfour (Haven), Chelsea Gilligan (Star-Crossed), Paul Walter Hauser (Kingdom), Rhys Ward (The Returned), Thomas Cadrot (Arrow) and Anjali Jay (Continuum).

This isn't Love's first acting credit by far, having seen roles in the likes of The People vs. Larry Flynt, Revenge, Empire, and Sons of Anarchy.
