Dave Lee Travis has spoken about making a comeback almost four years after being convicted of indecent assault.

The former presenter – best known for appearing on Top of the Pops and having a BBC Radio One show – was initially arrested in 2012 as part of the Operation Yewtree inquiry, itself started following the Jimmy Savile scandal.

Speaking to the Mirror, Travis announced his return to radio, fronting a two-hour weekend show on the digital station United DJs Radio, starting this March.

“I had a great broadcasting career and now it’s come to this point where I’m about to dip my toe back in the water again,” he told the publication. “Recently I’ve been in my home studio again and just felt the music again – it was really great. That’s what I love.”

Travis continues to deny the allegations. “I’ve been doing different things. But I haven’t been saying to myself, ‘Oh my God, I must get back on air or I’ll die’,” he continued.

“I do have pretty negative and strong feelings about things people have done that have been totally wrong. The unfortunate thing is that nowadays someone only has to say something and that’s enough to stop a person’s career.”

The DJ was convicted of indecent assault in September 2014 for an incident dating back to 1995. Travis had allegedly groped a TV researcher’s breast and received a three-month suspended sentence.
