Trailer: Derry Girls Series 2

Derry Girls will film its third season in 2021, Nicola Coughlan has confirmed.

The actor stars in Lisa McGee’s Channel 4 sitcom, which follows a group of teenagers living in Derry, Northern Ireland, amid the Troubles in the 1990s.

A third season of the show was announced in April 2019, with filming intended to begin the following spring. However, production was delayed indefinitely due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Now, Coughlan, who plays Claire in the comedy series, has confirmed that the show will film later this year.

“Can confirm Series 3 of Derry Girls is filming this year and I cannae bloody wait,” she tweeted on Saturday (20 February).

“Covid has pushed back filming several times which has been so s***e, but honestly the storylines in this series are the best we’ve ever done so I can’t tell you how worth it the wait will have been.”

Coughlan stars in Derry Girls alongside Saoirse-Monica Jackson, Louisa Harland, Jamie-Lee O’Donnell and Dylan Llewellyn.

The first season of the show aired early in 2018, with season two following the year after.

This winter, Coughlan also appeared in Netflix’s Bridgerton as Penelope Featherington.
