Donald Trump faked phone call on book going to number during SNL, cast member claims

'He was weird all week. He like faked a phone call at the table read'

Before becoming president, Donald Trump tried many things – even being a comedian, twice hosting Saturday Night Live (to some very mixed response).

Speaking on Complex Open Late, cast member Pete Davidson retold a very Trump-like anecdote about how the then-presidential candidate seemingly faked a phone call to himself.

“He was weird all week. He like faked a phone call at the table read,” Davidson said of Trump, who hosted for the second time on the 7 November 2015.

The comedian claims that, just before the cast started the read, Trump picked up the phone, quickly answered, responded, hung up, and then announced that "my book just went to number one."

“And we were all like, ‘that phone didn’t ring'," Davidson continued. "How did [the person on the other side of the phone] have time to say that."

The SNL cast member elaborated that Trump immediately answered and gave no pause to hear any response or explanation from whoever may have been calling. Watch the segment below.

Other cast members have previously spoken about trump being difficult to work with, including Taran Killam. He said: “He struggled to read at the table read, which did not give many of us great confidence. Didn’t get the jokes, really. He’s just a man who seems to be powered by bluster.”

SNL has since taken to mocking Trump on an almost weekly basis, bringing Alec Baldwin onto the show to mock the President. The most recent instance saw Baldwin's Trump speak to Stormy Daniels about the ongoing controversy surrounding the pair.
