Donald Glover earned not only his first Emmy at tonight's award ceremony, but the first for an African-American in the category.

The actor-writer-director beat Veep and Silicon Valley alumni to win the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Directing for a Comedy Series, specifically for the 'B.A.N.' episode of Atlanta.

The prize was first awarded in 1959.

Glover went on to win the award for acting in a comedic series later in the night, capping off a fantastic year that also saw his FX show pick up Golden Globes.

Atlanta isn't set to return until 2018 as Glover is currently busy filming the Han Solo prequel, in which he plays a young Lando Calrissian.
