Framing Britney Spears creators hint at sequel documentary: ‘There’s way more to learn about the conservatorship’

Filmmakers said they’d ‘love’ to make a sequel

The team behind a new documentary about Britney Spears have expressed interest in making a follow-up film.

Released earlier this month, Framing Britney Spears focused on Spears’s conservatorship and mental health issues and has reignited public interest in the #FreeBritney campaign.

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, senior story editor Liz Day said that the team were considering making a second documentary about the singer’s ongoing legal battle regarding her father’s role in her conservatorship.

“I think we’d love to,” Day said. “There was so much we had to leave on the cutting room floor and in our notebooks just for time.

“And also since the documentary aired, we’ve gotten a lot of information that we’re interested in as well that we’re interested in pursuing and reporting out further.”

Director Samantha Stark added: “I think there’s way more to learn about the circumstances of the conservatorship and how the conservatorship has been running and why, the people involved in its creation and running it.

“Right now, Jamie Spears is the face of this because he’s the person that was named in the court filings… but it’s clear that he’s not the only person who was working on this and that he’s not the only person that has benefited monetarily from this, so I think it’s important to look into everything.”

As well as Framing Britney Spears, which was produced for FX by The New York Times, Netflix is also reportedly working on their own documentary about the “Toxic” singer.
