Fyre Festival fiasco to be the subject of Hulu docuseries
The desert island festival promised opulence, delivered apocalypse
We're finally going to get an in-depth look at everyone's favourite schadenfreude-filled news story, Fyre Festival, with Hulu setting up a multi-episode documentary set to premiere in 2019.
Co-produced by Cinemart, Billboard and Mic, the series will, according to Deadline, 'recount the events leading up to and during the Bahamian festival, as well as its eventual collapse and aftermath.'
Fyre Festival was supposed to be an opulent paradise filled with models, cocktails and live music, but quickly descended into chaos due to a lack of planning and infrastructure, with attendees finding themselves without accommodation and left to wander the beaches in search of food and/or escape.
The festival was organised by Fyre Media founder Billy McFarland and rapper Ja Rule, with the series set to feature 'interviews with inside sources ranging from local Bahamians and stranded festivalgoers to vendors, investors and others.'
Hulu said the docuseries will serve as a cautionary tale for the millennial generation about the corruptive power of ambition, social media and instant gratification in a digital age.
