Game of Thrones fans want Lyanna Mormont to get her own spin-off

And she thoroughly deserves one

Given its sprawling universe and storied history, Game of Thrones is one of the few shows for which doing a spin-off wouldn’t actually be a terrible idea, and in season 6 we might have found its protagonist.

A number of prequels, sequels or standalone stories have been mooted, depending on how the main show ends, one involving Jon Snow - but really you need a character we know relatively little about.

Enter Lyanna Mormont, the diminutive Lady of Bear Island.

She has become a fan favourite after just three scenes, refusing to be intimidated by the adults surrounding her and generally being a complete badass.

Lyanna Mormont getting tired of her maester's shit

Here she is being a proto-feminist in response to Sansa’s attempt at flattering her:

Sansa Stark: "I remember when you were born, my lady. You were named for my aunt Lyanna. It's said she was a great beauty. I'm sure you will be too."

Lyanna: "I doubt it. My mother wasn't a great beauty, or any other kind of beauty. She was a great warrior, though. She died fighting for your brother Robb."

And later rallying pretty much every house in the North for the Stark cause:

“Your son was butchered at the Red Wedding, Lord Manderly, but you refused the call. You swore allegiance to House Stark, Lord Glover, but in their hour of greatest need, you refused the call. And you, Lord Cerwyn, your father was skinned alive by Ramsay Bolton. Still you refused the call. But House Mormont remembers. The North remembers. We know no king but the King in the North, whose name is Stark. I don’t care if he’s a bastard. Ned Stark’s blood runs through his veins. He’s my king from this day until his last day.”

There are thousands of years’ worth of House Mormont history to draw on, and there’s the potential for cameos from her compelling relatives, namely her first cousin Ser Jorah Mormont and her uncle Jeor Mormont.

How did a teenage girl come to be respected as the head of a house? Where did she learn to be skilled at diplomacy? Can she swing a sword?

Apart from a Worst Witch remake, actress Bella Ramsey’s schedule is pretty free, HBO…
