Game of Thrones season 6 episode 5: Brienne and Tormund's romance update
Brienne is in playground mode and moments from calling him names and pushing him over
What with all the eye gouging and head smashing in Game of Thrones, a little light relief is necessary each season, and this time around it's a romance between Brienne of Tarth and Tormund Giantsbane.
Unlikely and almost Downton Abbey-esque in its class-traversing aspect, it looks as though the heir to House Tarth and the wildling are going to get it on before the season's out.
Last week we simply got a glance, this week Brienne was in playground-like denial. "And that wildling with the beard!" she warned Sansa, almost blushing, before feigning disgust when Tormund later looked at her with a mixture of leer and puppy eyes.
Episode 4 director was stunned that the sub-plot seed was even picked up on.
“Honestly, I’m surprised anyone even noticed,” he told Tech Insider. “I mean, it was meant to be a little grace note, and the fact that it’s blown up with the buzz it has on the internet and on the blogosphere is kind of shocking to me.”
“It’s cool because they’re two characters who are sort of expressly cut off from emotions.
“Certainly [Brienne] is. She’s not particularly forthcoming or feminine. She’s all about her charge, her duty, her responsibility, and you hardly ever get to see her as person.
“Tormund, you know, he’s a f*cking wildling! The notion of these two unlikely people coming together, I think it’s very cool.”
Elsewhere in this week's Game of Thrones, there were dramatic events involving Hodor, and the show finally 'freed the penis'.
