Game of Thrones season 6: Women on top in finale with Daenerys and Yara poised to form alliance

A potentially pretty powerful one

The official HBO synopses for episodes 9 and 10 of Game of Thrones season 6 were pretty damn succinct and didn’t give a lot away, but a new one for 9 in TV & Satellite Week is much more elucidating (via @jowrotethis):

‘As Jon Snow and Ramsay Bolton do battle in the North, elsewhere in the Seven Kingdoms it’s the female characters who look the most likely to rule Westeros as season six comes to a close.

This week’s episode sees Yara Greyjoy and her brother Theon finally make it to Meereen where the Ironborn warrior finds an admirer in Daenerys.

“That’s the beauty of the show,” says Emilia Clarke, who plays Daenerys. “As women, we accept our femininity and take strength from it.”’

There’s a couple of interesting things here:

Firstly, it seems episode 9 - ‘The Battle of the Bastards’ - won’t entirely be taken over with the titular battle, despite the trailer focusing exclusively on it.

Secondly, it looks like Yara and Daenerys are going to forge some sort of alliance. I can see the two characters getting along, personality wise, and perhaps the former will help the latter keep the Astapor slavers at bay? I imagine Theon will get to meet Grey Worm too, and hear some reassuring words about the obvious.

Assuming the Starks beat the Boltons and regain Winterfell, will their next threat - White Walkers aside - be from Dany and Yara? Or will they all team up against the Lannisters/Baratheons? I guess we’ll find out in season 7.
