*WARNING: This article contains spoilers for Game of Thrones: season 6, episode 1*

We all thought Game of Thrones' first episode would reveal one thing, and one thing only: is Jon Snow alive or dead for good? Well, we're still not quite sure of the answer there, but season six's premiere still managed to pack in quite a shocking reveal for its salivating audiences.

After taking time to mourn Snow's passing at the Wall, Melisandre ended the episode by returning to her room, undressing, and revealing to audiences an entirely new form.

Baring herself in front of a mirror, we saw Melisandre as a much older version of herself; sparking intense speculation as to whether the reveal is linked to a possible resurrection of Snow, or a secret hidden within her necklace. Those are questions we'll have to wait for the following weeks to answer, but Twitter certainly went crazy for the twist.

Elsewhere in the episode, Doran and Tristane Martell were murdered by a mutinous Ellaria Sand, Sansa and Theon escaped and Cersei plotted revenge. You can read our full review of the Games of Thrones season premiere here.

Game of Thrones airs on Sunday nights in the US, at 9PM on HBO; and will be simulcast at 2AM on Sky Atlantic in the UK.
