Game of Thrones season 7 theory: Are Sansa and Arya Stark working to rid Westeros of Littlefinger?

The Stark sisters could spell the end for the master manipulator

Game of Thrones season seven has seen many interesting developments, chief of all the twist which has seen Arya seemingly turn against her sister Sansa thanks to the scheming of one Petyr “Littlefinger” Baelish.

However, longtime fans have grown somewhat confused with how 0-100 this storyline has gone considering both characters have spent the past six seasons eluding characters much more fearsome than Lord Baelish, and now Time is theorising that perhaps the Stark sisters have combined forces to rid Westeros of this particular manipulator.

Firstly, look no further than Arya's status as a trained 'Faceless Man' - Littlefinger's 'planted letter' trickery is small fry compared with the deceit she's not only tackled but dealt out in the past. Pair this with all those reminders that Sansa spent quite a fair bit of time with both Littlefinger and, of course, Cersei Lannister and it's a stretch to assume that she hasn't at least learnt a few things from both of those (and quite why she'd trust someone who married her off to Ramsay Bolton over her sister is a bit of a head-scratcher).

Sansa told Jon last season, “Only a fool would trust Littlefinger” and shortly after he gave the Valyrian steel dagger to Arya, she stated he's “...not a generous man. He wouldn't give you anything unless he thought he was getting something back” - it seems Arya and Sansa may have had an off-screen chat behind closed doors about what they're going to do about him.

A likely scenario is that Arya is using the letter as a tool to convince Littlefinger she's turned against her sister, which would go some way to explain the intense interaction between the two after Sansa discovered her bag of faces.

Why else would Sansa have sent Brienne - the Stark girls' protector - away so callously other than to get her out of the way while the Stark sisters dispatch of him?

One bigger point: why would Bran - the all-seeing Three-Eyed Raven - have handed the dagger over to Bran if he had seen her use it against her sister?

All big questions - and all ones that will no doubt be addressed in this weekend's season seven finale.

The HBO series' seventh season draws to a close next weekend with a finale that may or may not drop these three revelatory twists.
