Game of Thrones season 7 'Valonqar' theory predicts unexpected Cersei Lannister fate

This would be a twist nobody saw coming

If one thing's certain going into this weekend's Game of Thrones season seven finale, it's that some characters will not make it out alive.

One theory has gone so far as to predict which character that is backing up the prediction that season eight of the HBO fantasy series will be devoid of Cersei Lannister (Lena Headey).

Many believe that Cersei's recently-announced pregnancy spells the end for the reigning Queen of Westeros all thanks to the prophecy told to her when she was a young girl: that she will die at the hands of the “Valonqar” which translates from High Valerian as “little brother.”

Naturally, fans have long assumed this means one of her very own brothers, Tyrion or Jaime, will end her life with the season seven premiere seeming to hint that the latter - the father of her unborn child - will be the one to “wrap his hands about [her] pale white throat and choke the life from [her.]”

Now, Elite Daily is reporting Reddit user arxe's prediction that the “little brother” may not be her own, but the unborn sibling of her three deceased children - the one that will kill her in childbirth.

“So, we know that Cersei was told she will die by the ”little brother“ and people have been debating Jamie/Tyrion for a while...

“But what if this new development that Cersei is pregnant allows for a bit of a twist on this prophecy? What if she bears another son? That child would be a little brother to her deceased children. And, what if the boy is deformed or a dwarf like Tyrion? What happened to their mother during Tyrion's birth? She died!

“I like the symmetry there if Cersei were to die in the same manner as her mother. It still maintains the Valonqar prophecy and in a way that I could see GRRM thinking up and sharing with the showrunners ahead of time. There might even be moments of anguish after the baby is born but before Cersei dies where she has to confront the fact that she, herself, has birthed another Lannister monster. I think it would be the ultimate cosmic justice for all the crap she's given Tyrion over the years - blaming him for killing her mother, etc.”

Other theories currently doing the round include one suggesting Bran is the Night King while the shock death in last weekend's episode debunked the long-held belief that Tyrion would be the third person alongside Daenerys and Jon Snow in the popular 'dragon rider' prophecy.

Elsewhere, many fans are expecting the HBO series' seventh season to end with these three revelatory twists.

Game of Thrones airs in the US on HBO every Sunday where it is simulcast in the UK on Sky Atlantic at 2am. It is repeated that same evening on both Sky Atlantic and NOW TV.
