HBO has released a trailer for season 5 of Girls, seeing the friendship group fragment somewhat.

‘Girls grow up, they grow apart’ the teaser states, going on to reveal that Shoshanna (Zoysia Mamet) did accept her job offer in Japan from season 4.

Hannah (Lena Dunham) still appears to be with Fran (Jake Lacy) meanwhile, but the biggest news is that Marnie (Allison Williams) is trying on wedding dresses.

“Is Marnie seriously marrying this douchebag musician???? But Rayyy!!!” a YouTuber exclaimed, to many upvotes.

It seems Marnie's friends are similarly skeptical, with the character being heard saying over the footage: “The very least you could do right now is to pretend that I might be doing the right thing.”

Dunham, who is also the creator and director of Girls, has said that season 6 may be the last, as she thinks “America has a tendency to push shows past their due dates,” adding that the writing team have already begun to “think about how to wrap up the storylines of these particular young women.”

Girls season 5 premieres on HBO on 21 February.
