Glastonbury 2015 line-up: AC/DC 'will play if Michael Eavis asks'

Fleetwood Mac have been ruled out of the running but AC/DC are favourites

Rockers AC/DC have said that they would happily headline Glastonbury, if only founder Michael Eavis would ask.

Quizzed by BBC 6 Music presenters Steve Lamacq and Shaun Keaveny yesterday, the Aussie band seemingly quashed rumours that they were a dead cert for 2015’s festival.

“I don’t know if there’s rock and roll there, is there?” asked frontman Brian Johnson. “I don’t know, please don’t ask me, I’m really not up on it. I thought it was wellies and corporate. I don’t know!”

It took the mention of Metallica’s controversial headline slot last year to persuade the band that playing Worthy Farm might not be such a bad idea after all.

“If they ask…okay,” said guitarist Angus Young. “If they ask I’ll say he sent us, Shaun sent us.”

The hard rock group are among the bookies’ favourites to headline Glastonbury next summer, along with Paul McCartney, Morrissey, Foo Fighters, The Libertines and Prince.

Fleetwood Mac had been the top bet but Eavis soon announced that they were “unavailable”, much to the disappointment of many fans.

Yesterday, the US band was confirmed for an exclusive UK festival appearance at the Isle of Wight Festival.

Glastonbury will run from 24 to 28 June 2015. The only act announced to play so far is Motown legend Lionel Richie, who will perform in the Sunday teatime slot like Dolly Parton did last year.
