Disney has confirmed that all episodes of The Golden Girls will arrive on its streaming service, Disney Plus, by the summer.

The company confirmed the news during a press conference ahead of its massive content drop on 23 February, which will see 276 films and a number of well-known TV series arrive on the platform all at once.

While The Golden Girls wasn’t included as part of the new content package, which is called Star, Disney did confirm that the series was slated for a release on the streaming service soon.

The Golden Girls ran from 1985 to 1992, and focused on the exploits of four older women (Beatrice Arthur, Betty White, Rue McClanahan, and Estelle Getty) who share a home in Miami.

UK viewers can sign up to Star on Disney+ now and save over 20%. Head over to Disney+ here to find out more.

Over the course of its 180-episode, seven-season run, the show won 11 Emmys, four Golden Globes, and was Emmy-nominated 68 times.

Disney did not provide an exact launch date, but confirmed that the series would be added in its entirety by the summer.

Fans have reacted enthusiastically to the news.

“Move over Mandalorian - Golden Girls is on its way,” wrote one Twitter user.

“ My dreams have come true. Be still my old lady heart,” wrote someone else.

In the UK, the price for a month’s subscription to Disney Plus is set to increase from £5.99 to £7.99 next week.

The Golden Girls can currently be viewed on Hulu in the US, or purchased on Amazon Prime Video in the UK.
