Google reveals 10 most-searched for TV shows of 2019

From Game of Thrones to Chernobyl, these are the top trending series of the year

Google has announced the results of its 2019 Year in Search, revealing the TV shows that captured the world’s attention for the past 12 months.

It was a huge year for television dramas, with the eighth series Game of Thrones being the most-searched for TV show of the year and reaching third place in the list of all top trending topics.

The fantasy epic made headlines this year for its controversial final season, which saw over 1m fans signing a petition calling for a remake “with competent writers”.

In second place on the round-up of the most-searched for shows of the year was HBO’s highly acclaimed historical drama, Chernobyl, which won 10 Emmy awards.

The popularity of British reality television shows is also apparent in the search trends, with Love Island and I’m a Celebrity placing third and fifth in the list respectively.

BBC shows Line of Duty, His Dark Materials, Luther and Killing Eve, as well as Netflix’s Stranger Things and When They See Us, also claimed top 10 places this year.
