Great British Bake Off star Richard Burr: 'I only entered the show because I was hungover'
Contestant said he entered to stop his wife nagging him after overdoing it

Great British Bake Off contestant Richard Burr has revealed he only signed up to the show to stop his wife nagging him while he was hungover.
The builder, who has made it through to the semi-finals of the hit BBC show, admitted he applied to the show after overdoing it over Christmas.
“My wife Sarah said I should do it, and because I had such a hangover on New Year’s Day I agreed for a bit of peace and quiet,” he told the Radio Times.
“I left Sarah to do the writing. Next thing I knew I had the production company phoning me up.”
The father of two, who has been crowned star baker numerous times throughout the series, said he hoped the show has encouraged more men to bake.
“I hope we’ve turned over some stereotypes. Builders aren’t particularly known for their cooking abilities, but I think more fellas should bake.
“Bread’s easy, it’s only four ingredients, and even if you make it badly people are appreciative.”
Richard faces Chetna Makan, Nancy Birtwhistle and Luis Troyano for the title of champion baker.
The Great British Bake Off semi-final airs Wednesday 1 October at 8pm on BBC One.
