Grey’s Anatomy brought back two dead characters on Thursday night’s episode, revealing a surprise happy ending for one of the show’s tormented couples.
“Breathe”, the 10th episode of the show’s 17th season, continued the story of Meredith Grey’s Covid-19 diagnosis. The character tested positive to the illness earlier in the season, which has been devoted to the coronavirus pandemic.
Throughout the season, Meredith has had visions of herself on a beach, where she has been visited by several characters who were killed off in previous seasons.
In Thursday’s episode, she encountered her half-sister Lexie Grey and former colleague Mark Sloan. Lexie and Mark, who had an on-again, off-again relationship throughout the show, were each killed off in seasons eight and nine after a plane crash.

Mark replied: “On your beach, looks like we are.”
Lexie and Mark are the latest characters to visit Meredith in her visions. Previously, the show has brought back Derek Shepherd (Patrick Dempsey) and George O’Malley (TR Knight) using the same narrative device.
