Around the world, Harry Potter is still a big deal, especially now the eighth part in the series - Harry Potter and the Cursed Child - has been released and Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is on the way.

According to Bloomberg, the rights to exclusively air those films on TV in the US - not to create a TV show, but just to show the films - is worth upwards of $200 million.

While Disney has previously housed the Warner Bros. films, NBC has acquired the rights to show the Harry Potter and upcoming Fantastic Beasts series through until April 2025.

However, reports have indicated that NBC spent upwards of $250 million on the deal, an unprecedented amount for a film series.

The network will be trying to cash in on the renewed interest in Harry Potter, showing the series on its USA and SyFy channels - both of which have suffered drops in ratings thanks to dozens of Americans cutting the cord on cable TV.

NBC’s Universal Studios Hollywood recently launched “The Wizarding World of Harry Potter”, an attraction featuring a huge Hogwarts and Quidditch simulator.

Attendance to the park his increased substantially since its launch - no doubt, they’ll be hoping JK Rowling’s creation will have the same magical effect on their TV services.

Recently, it was revealed that the Fantastic Beast trilogy will be 'more grown up' than the previous films.
